Los Angeles, February 25, 2020 – Keiro will expand its support to caregivers through multiple events throughout the community this year. Keiro’s annual Caregiver Conference will be held at Venice Japanese Community Center on Sunday, May 31, 2020 from 12:30 – 5:00 p.m. This free, one-day conference continues Keiro’s work to support and equip family caregivers with practical knowledge to enhance the quality of care that their loved ones can receive.
This year’s focus for the Caregiver Conference is family dynamics and navigating difficult conversations. The keynote panel will focus on communicating with family members surrounding the care of our loved ones with first-hand experiences shared by community members. Moderated by Kanako Fukuyama, MSW, Iyashi Care, the panelists – Lynn Miyamoto, Naoko Okada, and Andrew Takahashi – will share their stories of their caregiving journeys.
Attendees can also choose from three breakout sessions about advanced care planning, decluttering, and starting a conversation on coordinating care. As in past conferences, attendees can take advantage of free consultations with an attorney or social worker, available with pre-registration. Along with a hosted bento, the resource fair, comprised of nonprofit organizations and businesses focused on helping older adults, will be available for attendees to explore. This year’s conference planning committee consists of multiple partnering organizations in the West Los Angeles area: Los Angeles Holiness Church, The Terasaki Nibei Foundation, Venice Free Methodist Church, Venice Hongwanji Buddhist Temple, Venice Japanese Community Center, Venice Pioneer Project, West Los Angeles Buddhist Temple, and West Los Angeles United Methodist Church.
