On June 26, 2025 Keiro hosted Genki Living Workshops: Golf at Brookside Golf Club in Pasadena, California. The purpose of this workshop was for attendees to discover how golf can be more than just a game—it can be a fun, social, and sustainable way to stay active and connected.

Group golf lessons were led by seasoned golf instructor, Wataru “Watt” Tomita, who has over a decade of coaching experience and teaches golfers of all ages and abilities. Attendees came with varying levels of experience, ranging from those who had never played golf before to those who used to play regularly but had not picked up a club in a while.

Watt guided participants through the fundamentals of swinging a golf club, from proper setup to follow-through. He then offered more individualized instruction, which proved helpful for both beginners and more experienced golfers looking to refine their skills. Here are a few voices of participants:

The people were wonderful, and I did not feel intimidated like I normally do. So overall, it was a great experience for my body, mind, health, and socializing. I think that was the most important part, the socializing.

Tomi: The instructor was great. I got a couple of pointers that helped me out, and that was wonderful.

Ken: I have been playing for a long time, but it doesn’t matter because as you get older, your swing changes. The instructor was able to see a problem in my swing, and it helped quite a bit. I would recommend this to starter golfers [and even] to an older golfer, like myself.

[This workshop] was really exciting, because I have been at home, and I do a lot of sitting around doing paperwork and studying. This came up, and I thought, “Oh I can check it out and see if I can still golf.” When I came, the people were so nice and there were so many of you that were welcoming me. I just couldn’t help myself saying, “Hey, I am hooked. I am going back to golfing.”

This golf event was the second installment of the Genki Living Workshops. The next workshop, focusing on yoga, will be held at Terasaki Budokan in Little Tokyo on Tuesday, July 22, 2025.

Thank you to our generous Geneki Living Workshops sponsors, who made these workshops possible.
