A Note from Beverly Ito, Keiro President & CEO
On Saturday, January 21, 2023 Keiro sponsored a luncheon to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Monterey Park Japanese American Senior Citizens Club (MPJASCC), a longtime community partner. After curtailing in-person gatherings during the pandemic, the excitement of reconnecting with friends, inducting new officers, and ushering in a new year filled with hope and jubilation was tragically upended with the horrific loss of life just hours later. Our sincere condolences go out to the families of the shooting victims and those in the Monterey Park community whose sense of security was severely shaken by the evening’s events, including our MPJASCC friends.
Keiro has a commitment to prioritizing safety and security for older adults in our community by providing resources such as our situational awareness and other safety fact sheets. In alignment with our Quality of Life educational classes, both personal and organizational security have been and will continue to be a priority this year. Keiro will convene its Nikkei Senior Network community partners and leaders throughout the year to have ongoing discussions around community safety. For additional information, or to participate in these conversations, please contact [email protected].
The resilience of Our Community throughout the pandemic is a testament to the strength of our shared culture, values, and the support we receive from our family, friends, and partnerships. Together, we will need to lean on each other to regain our sense of comfort, peace, and safety.
With loving thoughts and healing prayers from all of us at Keiro,
Beverly Ito, President & CEO
