Session Details

Keynote Presentation

Not Your Average Family Talk: Communication Tools for Caregivers
Keynote Presentation Sponsors: Kimiko Fujita and SCAN Health Plan

Presenter: Lisa Pahl, LCSW

Communication is key to enhancing quality of life for the caregiver and care recipient as it improves understanding of each other’s needs, wishes, and preferences. In this session, attendees will learn and practice both spoken and unspoken communication tools, including addressing uncomfortable topics.

Breakout Sessions

Presenters: Ruth Kurihara, PT; Ryan Martineau, PT, DPT; Tomomi Takahashi; Kimi Takaoka-Martineau, PT, DPT, ATC; and Naomi Yoshida

Well-rounded care for your loved one can gradually include direct caregiving such as lifting, transferring, and positioning. This session will provide caregivers the space to explore proper techniques, via demonstrations, that many industry professionals use on a day-to-day basis.

Presenter: Aaron Hagedorn, MHA/MSG, PhD

Technology can be one way to mitigate difficulties in coordinating and communicating care for a loved one to those inside and outside of your care team. This session will introduce technology and caregiving applications that can serve as helpful tools to support your day-to-day responsibilities ranging from upgrading everyday household technology, documenting medical notes, and facilitating care among a care team.

All opinions expressed are general in nature and solely those of the speakers, and do not necessarily reflect the opinions of Keiro. You should consult a physician, pharmacist, social worker, and/or an attorney of your own selection for professional advice that is appropriate for your personal situation.
