SUMMARY:Baking with Mary Ellen Wong
DESCRIPTION:Mandel bread\, a traditional Jewish cookie\, is similar to Italian biscotti. Like biscotti\, mandel bread is twice-baked and crunchy. However\, because it is baked with more oil\, it is a bit richer and less dry. \n\n\n\nThe recipe is very simple and no mixer is needed. The basic recipe is divided into two loaves\, therefore\, you can easily make one loaf with chocolate chips and the other with dried fruit. \n\n\n\nJoin Mary Ellen during this forum and make a batch of yummy mandel bread.Mandel Bread Recipe

SUMMARY:You've Been Pop Culture'd: AAPI Celebration Series Week 1: The Story of Arashi with Kelsey Uyeda
DESCRIPTION:You’ve Been Pop Culture’d: AAPI Celebration Series is a 6-week course of AAPI in American pop culture and each week is a celebration party.  The month of May is also Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month. It is without a doubt that Arashi was Japan’s greatest boy band with a career spanning two decades.  Arashi broke countless records in the history of Japan’s music industry.  Despite the challenge of competing with rivaling Western and South Korean music artists\, the rapidly evolving music industry on a global scale and the progressive Millennial and GenZ generations\, Arashi kept their momentum.  Their unexpected hiatus was a shock to the system\, but together\, we will celebrate their 20-year career!      \n\n\n\nKelsey Uyeda is a fourth generation Japanese American with a Master of Science Gerontology degree (CSULB ’20) and Bachelor of Arts Music degree (UCLA ’14).  Kelsey is currently a lecturer for the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at CSULB and a virtual forum presenter for Keiro.  Kelsey has mad love for pop culture and its historical and sociological significance and impact on society.

SUMMARY:You've Been Pop Culture'd AAPI Celebration Series Week 5: Music Artist Highlight: BTS
DESCRIPTION:You’ve Been Pop Culture’d: AAPI Celebration Series is a 6-week course of AAPI in American pop culture and each week is a celebration party.  The month of May is also Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month. \n\n\n\nARMY! You cannot celebrate AAPI without the biggest boy band in the world and the reigning champions of pop culture music: BTS.  Amidst the backdrop of a pandemic\, 2020 was a record-breaking and monumental year for RM\, Suga\, j-hope\, Jungkook\, Jimin\, V and Jin.  So\, how did seven boys from South Korea obtain world domination?  It’s quite simple: love\, loyalty\, trust\, authenticity and humility.  Beyond the songs\, choreography\, fashion and flawlessly good looks\, BTS has proven that they are more than entertainers. ARMY shine your ARMY bomb light sticks and remember\, together we are bulletproof.  I purple you!

SUMMARY:Kelsey's Book Corner: Keep Sharp: Build a Better Brain at Any Age by Dr. Sanjay Gupta\, MD
DESCRIPTION:Image retrieved from AARP \n\n\n\n\n\n*Note: The book featured is appropriate for ages 30 and older. \n\n\n\nIn Latin\, dementia means “out of one’s mind” and senile\, which simply means old\, are used as adjectives to describe an older adult who is insane.  Furthermore\, dementia and Alzheimer’s disease are used interchangeably\, which could not be more glaringly incorrect.  Dementia is the derogatory umbrella word for what needs to be called cognitive impairment.  Alzheimer’s disease is a type of cognitive impairment like when we label different types of cancer.  So\, are you ready for more mind-blowing revelations?  In Dr. Sanjay Gupta’s groundbreaking book\, he imbues his knowledge with the most cutting-edge and groundbreaking research conducted on cognitive health and its natural decline as we age.  He answers the question “why” with justification that no one can deny and destroys the fear of aging in regard to our cognition.  Kelsey’s Book Corner is an opportunity for curiosity and education of real-life application to a healthier\, stronger and resilient you. \n\n\n\nKelsey Uyeda is a fourth generation Japanese American who earned her Master of Science Gerontology at CSULB (Class of 2020) and her Bachelor of Arts Music at UCLA (Class of 2014).  As a gerontologist\, Kelsey is a specialist in older adults and the aging process.  Her aging philosophy focuses on positive aging that is rooted in multigenerational relationships\, physical activity\, lifelong learning\, curiosity\, resiliency\, living your best life and most all of\, loving yourself.

SUMMARY:Senior Safety: Safe Driving Tips for Seniors
