SUMMARY:Moving an Edo Period House to the Huntington’s Japanese Garden
DESCRIPTION:The Japanese Heritage House will be the latest addition to the iconic Japanese Garden built by Henry Huntington in 1912.  Learn about the discovery\, restoration and moving of this 320-year-old Japanese house that served as a center of village life in Marugame\, Japan\, and how Japanese architecture influenced the mid-century Modern Home in California. \n\n\n\nRobert Hori is the Botanical Cultural Curator and Program Director.  He oversees programming related to East Asian garden arts including landscape design\, tea ceremony\, flower arranging\, stone viewing and bonsai.  He organizes lectures and cultural experiences for the public\, and has curated exhibitions including Nuestro Mundo\, artwork created by young Latino artists in response to the historical exhibit Visual Voyages: Images of Latin American Nature from Columbus to Darwin\, Out of the Woods & Amazing Trees\, FloriLegium: Folded Transformations for the Natural World by Robert J. Lang\, and Ice & Stone for the Portland Japanese Garden featuring prime examples of viewing stones from the Huntington.  Prior to working for the Huntington\, he was a program director at the Japanese American Cultural & Community Center in Los Angeles.

DESCRIPTION:Kokoro no Hashi(心の橋) is an opportunity for highschool students to show off their talent/skill sets to an older audience. With a variety of acts ranging from dance to magic as well as interviews with the performers\, the program is a great way for the younger generation to connect with the older generation. \n\n\n\nBrandon Takahashi is a Junior at Polytechnic School in Pasadena. He has been a member of the Los Angeles Children’s Chorus since 2012 and is a member of the Jazz band at school\, playing the Vibraphone\, keyboard and doing vocals. Through youth leadership programs such as Kizuna and Rising Stars\, he is also actively learning about the Japanese American community and ways in which he can engage and provide service.
